Psychologists in Public Service Distinguished Career Award

Description

The Distinguished Career Award recognizes psychologists who:

  • Have made outstanding contributions to public service of underserved populations through research, teaching, program development, and/or clinical practice;
  • Have demonstrated multiple and/or continuous significant accomplishments in public service of underserved populations over the course of a career or in the course of ongoing career endeavors;
  • Are viewed as strong advocates of the work of psychologists in public service focused on underserved populations;
  • Have held formal (director, president, etc.) and/or informal (mentors, role models, etc.) leadership roles in the field of public service with direct long-term impact (e.g., led to change in a system, trained future leaders, etc.).

Eligibility

Contribution and impact may include but not limited to:

  • Important research on a public service setting, field, or population being served within public service settings (e.g., veterans within VA system);the development of effective materials for or research on implementation of effective program in a public service setting;
  • The establishment of workshops, conferences, or networks of communication for education or training of psychologists working in public service;
  • Achievement and leadership in administration within public service;
  • Development of innovative teaching, program development, or clinical practice focused on improving the needs of populations or clinical work in public service;
  • Local, regional, and national recognition of research, teaching, program development, and/or clinical practice in public service;
  • Work done to advance psychologists’ work in public service focused on underserved populations.

How to Apply

To submit a nomination, please provide the following:

  • A letter of nomination that describes and supports the individual’s contributions (e.g., nature of the individual’s service to public mental health, positions held);
  • Curriculum vitae;
  • Two additional letters of support.

Calls for division award nomination materials are emailed via the PUBSERV membership list early spring annually. The submission due date is May 31st annually. Please submit nomination materials to president@publicservicepsych.org.
